Worcester Bosch Boiler Engineer in Surrey
Installation, servicing and repairs on all Worcester Bosch boilers. Over 21 years' experience working on the full Worcester range — currently working towards Worcester accreditation in 2026.
Worcester Bosch installation & servicing
Worcester Bosch is one of the most popular boiler brands in the UK, and for good reason — they're well engineered, parts are widely available, and they have a strong track record for reliability. I've been installing and servicing Worcester boilers throughout my 21+ years in the trade, including 17 years at British Gas where the Worcester Greenstar was one of the most commonly fitted boilers.
The Greenstar 4000 is the current combi of choice for most homes — compact, quiet, and efficient. For larger properties, the Greenstar 8000 Life and Greenstar system boilers paired with a cylinder are excellent options. I'll always survey your home first and recommend the model that suits your property, your hot water usage, and your budget.
Working towards Worcester accreditation
I'm currently in the process of becoming a Worcester Bosch accredited installer in 2026. Once accredited, I'll be able to offer extended warranties of up to 12 years on Worcester boiler installations — giving you even more peace of mind. In the meantime, every Worcester installation comes with our 12-month workmanship guarantee plus the manufacturer's standard warranty, and the same level of care and expertise I bring to every job.
Worcester Bosch repairs
If your Worcester boiler has broken down or is showing a fault code, give me a call. I carry common parts on the van and can often get your heating back on the same day. With over two decades of experience on the full Worcester range — from older Greenstar i and Si models right through to the latest 4000 and 8000 Life — there isn't much I haven't seen.
Common Worcester Bosch fault codes
Worcester Bosch boilers display fault codes on the front panel — either as a letter/number combination (newer models) or a simple code (older Greenstar models). Here are the ones I get called out to most often.
Ignition failure
What it means: The boiler has attempted to ignite but failed. EA 227 is the most common Worcester fault code.
Common causes: Faulty ignition electrode or lead, gas valve failure, blocked condensate pipe (especially in freezing weather), or a gas supply issue. On older Greenstar i models, electrode erosion is very common.
What you can try: Check your gas supply — are other gas appliances working? In cold weather, check the condensate pipe for ice and pour warm water over it. Then reset the boiler.
When to call Mark: If the condensate isn't frozen and your gas supply is fine, it's almost always an internal fault. I carry Worcester ignition parts on the van — usually a same-day fix.
Overheating / safety lockout
What it means: The boiler has reached an unsafe temperature and locked out. The overheat thermostat has triggered.
Common causes: Pump failure (water not circulating), sludge buildup in the heat exchanger, air locks, or a faulty overheat thermostat.
What you can try: Don't keep resetting — repeated overheating can damage the heat exchanger. Check your radiators for cold spots, which indicate sludge.
When to call Mark: I'll check the pump, test water flow through the heat exchanger, and identify the cause. It often leads to a power flush recommendation.
Low water pressure
What it means: System pressure has dropped below the minimum. The boiler won't fire until pressure is restored.
Common causes: Leak on the system (radiator valves, pipe joints, or the boiler itself), a dripping pressure relief valve, or air released through bleeding radiators.
What you can try: Re-pressurise using the filling loop to around 1.2 bar. Many Greenstar models have an integrated key on the underside of the boiler.
When to call Mark: If pressure drops again within a few days, there's a leak. I'll pressure-test the system to find it.
Flow thermistor fault
What it means: The temperature sensor on the flow pipe is giving an incorrect reading.
Common causes: Failed thermistor, poor connection, or limescale buildup around the sensor area.
What you can try: Nothing you can safely do — this is an internal sensor fault.
When to call Mark: This is a straightforward repair — the thermistor is a common part that I carry on the van, so it can usually be sorted on the first visit without needing to order anything in.
Return thermistor fault
What it means: The return water temperature sensor is faulty — the one measuring the cooler water coming back from your radiators.
Common causes: Failed thermistor or wiring connection issue. These sensors wear out over time.
What you can try: Nothing to try yourself.
When to call Mark: Same as D1 — a straightforward sensor replacement. I always replace the thermistor clip as well to ensure a good connection.
Fan fault
What it means: The fan isn't running at the expected speed, or isn't running at all. The boiler needs the fan to create a draft through the flue before it can safely ignite.
Common causes: Fan motor failure, faulty fan speed sensor (Hall sensor), or wiring issue. On older Greenstars, the fan bearings can wear out and become noisy before eventually failing.
What you can try: Listen when the boiler tries to start — a grinding or whining noise suggests worn bearings. If you hear nothing, the fan motor may have failed completely.
When to call Mark: Fan replacement is a common Worcester repair. I'll test the fan electrically and mechanically to confirm before ordering the part.
Fan speed fault
What it means: The fan is running but not at the correct speed. This can be a predecessor to a full C6 214 fan failure.
Common causes: Worn fan motor slowing down, blocked flue restricting airflow, or a faulty PCB.
What you can try: Check that nothing is blocking the flue terminal on the outside wall — bird nests, leaves, or debris can restrict airflow.
When to call Mark: If the flue is clear, the fan likely needs replacing. Catching this early avoids a cold house while waiting for the part.
Pump fault
What it means: The boiler has detected a problem with the pump — either it's not running, running too slowly, or there's an electrical fault.
Common causes: Seized pump (very common after summer when the heating hasn't been used), failed pump motor, or air locked pump. Worcester Greenstars use Grundfos pumps which are reliable but do seize if left idle.
What you can try: Nothing safe to try yourself on this one.
When to call Mark: Sometimes a seized pump can be freed off without replacement. If the motor has failed, it needs replacing. This is a common autumn call-out.
Service reminder (Greenstar 4000/8000)
What it means: On newer Worcester models, a flashing blue light means the boiler is due its annual service. It's not a fault — the boiler will continue to work.
What you can try: Nothing to worry about — just book your annual service.
When to call Mark: Book your Worcester service and I'll reset the reminder after completing it. Don't ignore it — annual servicing keeps your warranty valid.

What people say
Mark completed a gas boiler replacement for me. The work was carried out in one day to a high standard of workmanship. Communication was always very good.
I put a Checkatrade job up on Sunday on my boiler which wasn't working. Within an hour Mark had contacted, given an estimate, and we had organised for him to come and look at it the next day.
I'm so glad we chose Mark to fit our new boiler as he did a fantastic job. He arrived early and worked till late, not stopping until all work was complete in less than 2 days.
